Colchane is a village, municipality, administrative center and border town, inhabited by 1.649 people and located 262km northeast of Iquique. It is surrounded by mountains and volcanos like the Tata Sabaya and the Isluga. The town was originally created to exert a greater power over the Chilean-Bolivian border.
The village is heavily influenced by pre-Hispanic ethnicities, who value the earth Pachamama. In terms of modern infrastructure, Colchane posseses a police station, medical services, electric light, telephone and internet connection.
