Pampa del Tamarugal - Endemic Beauty of the Desert

The National Reserve Pampa de Tamarugal is located in the communities of Pozo Almonte and Huara. It covers a Surface of 100.650 hectares.

The native tree that gave the name to the reserve is a typical form of vegetation of northern Chile. It grows from the canyon of Tana up to Maria Elena, and some of the area belongs to the Llano Central. The fruit is a leather-like legume, about the shape of a peanut and of yellow-greenish color. The size varies between 2 and 5cm, with 8-10 black seeds on the inside. The tree also grows yellow flowers, inflorescence in clusters.
