The Hot Springs of Polloquere, located on the shore of the Salt Lake Surire, offer a great stop for a revitalizing bath.
Water temperatures range around 66°C. Its location right next to the salt flat and the warm water temperatures turn the springs into lagoons of bright turquoise color. A dip in the water is especially recommended for people who suffer from rheumatism or lumbar pains.
Of course, everybody else can also take a relaxing bath and enjoy the beautiful surroundings that the Salt Lake Surire has to offer. Around Polloquere, you can spot vicuñas, alpacas, lamas, foxes, and Andean ostriches, all forming part of a fascinating scenery. The region is also known for being home to the biggest number of flamingo species in the world.
The extreme altitude and the aridity of the region do not allow for a large variety of flora. But despite the sparsely vegetated environment, the distinct landscape of the highlands is a true and fascinating marvel of Chile.
The “Termas de Polloquere” are part of the National Monument Salt Lake Surire. The springs consist of two lagoons, both with water temperatures above 60°C, making them the hottest natural springs in the country. In combination with the high concentration of minerals, the springs are an instantly revitalizing and energizing stop for every visitor.
Whether you plan to take a bath in the springs or just go for a hike in the area, it is recommended to visit during morning hours, not to make excessive noise that could affect the environment and to bring enough drinking water.
