The “Nevados de Putre” are the snowy peaks of Putre and also known as the Taapacas. They consist of the Taapaca and the Ancoma which impressively sit above the village. They convert the landscape in one of the most fascinating sceneries of the North.
The peaks form part of the mountain range Larancagua. Only one of the many tales of these mountains is the story of the airplane that can be found on the flanks, an old plane that once came from Bolivia and that crashed here many years ago.
Both volcanos have been active for 2.7 million years, spitting lava and tephra.
